Rhinoplasty recovery

How long it lasts, what aftercare you need and how the ultrasonic technique reduces bruising and shortens time off.

Recovering from a rhinoplasty is simpler than many patients imagine. The splint is removed after a week, social life resumes within 1-2 weeks and, with ultrasonic technique, bruising and swelling are notably less. The definitive result refines itself over the following months.

Rhinoplasty recovery

How long does rhinoplasty recovery take?

Broadly: in the first week you wear a splint and rest is advisable; in the second week most patients return to normal life; by a month most of the visible swelling is gone; and the final result settles between 6 and 12 months, as the inflammation of the nasal tip resolves.

Recovery step by step

  • First week: nasal splint and relative rest. Mild swelling around the eyes and cheekbones for 2-3 days is normal.
  • Second week: the splint is removed and nasal breathing returns to normal. Most people can go back to work and social life.
  • First month: the main swelling goes down. Avoid impact sports and wearing glasses resting on the nose.
  • From 3 to 12 months: the nasal tip finishes defining itself and the definitive result becomes visible. There are follow-up check-ups at 3, 6 and 12 months.

Key aftercare following surgery

  • Sleep with your head and torso raised about 15-30 degrees during the first week.
  • Apply dry local cold for the first 3-5 days to reduce swelling.
  • Do not blow your nose during the first month; use nasal rinses instead.
  • Avoid glasses resting on the nose, and sport, during the first month.
  • Do not smoke: tobacco is proven to worsen healing.

Recovery with ultrasonic technique

Ultrasonic rhinoplasty sculpts the bone with ultrasound instead of manual instruments. By preserving the soft tissue better, it notably reduces bruising and swelling, which usually means a more comfortable and discreet recovery. In most cases we also operate without nasal packing.

When should I contact the clinic?

A little blood-tinged discharge and a feeling of pressure in the first few days is normal. Contact us if you have heavy bleeding that does not stop, a fever, or pain that does not improve with the prescribed medication. If in doubt, write to us: we would rather answer your questions sooner than later.

Frequently asked questions

When can I go back to work?

Most patients return to working and social life from the second week, once the splint has been removed.

Is recovery very painful?

Generally no. A feeling of pressure predominates rather than pain, which is usually mild and well controlled with the prescribed pain relief.

When is the final result visible?

The change is visible from the moment the splint is removed, but the definitive result settles between 6 and 12 months, once the swelling of the tip has fully gone down.

When can I exercise?

It is advisable to avoid impact sports during the first month. In some cases gentle, impact-free exercise can be resumed sooner, depending on progress.

“Estoy super contenta.
